Having the 120Hz refresh rate and more aggressive curve make up for any other drawbacks of this monitor. Regardless of these two flaws, I am very happy overall with my upgrade. Unlike some of you world class FPS gamers, I don't have the perfect aim, so having the aim assist really helps me out when playing PvP modes in games. So, after I received my monitors and tested them out over this past weekend, I only have two complaints 1) out of the box, both the color gamut and contrast ratio are way off and required calibration (I used a Spyder Pro 5), and 2) no built-in reticle aim assist overlay my X34 monitors have this feature and I love it. I just bought two AW3418DW panels "open-box excellent condition" from Best Buy for $899/each with a 4-year warranty and I LOVE THEM!! Fair warning to those thinking about buying the AW3418DW from the Dell Outlet they only come with a 90-day limited warranty. Enter Feb 2018 and alas I was able to upgrade. That's when I decided to wait it out for a sale. Then the AW3418DW came along and I was seriously considering 'upgrading' from my Acer X34 monitors.that is until I saw that gawd awful initial release price tag. At the time, I owned two Acer X34 monitors and was very happy with them, but still was wishing for a bit more curve and a higher refresh rate. When I first saw this monitor released to the market, the first thing I though was "DAMN, THAT PRICE IS LUDICROUS!!". I don't feel like I entirely got value for my money but fuck it.Īny questions? I can provide images upon request.Īs requested, BLB : and desktop and in-game pictures. The only issue that really worries me, which I'm going to keep an eye on is the heat. Overall thoughts: I'm really enjoying the monitor, despite the cons. Bottom left corner is the worst but the other three corners are acceptable/good. Its very sturdy but I think I will be getting a monitor arm in time.īacklight bleed is of course present, being an IPS panel. Stand is quite clunky and heavy and takes up a lot of space. Not an issue to me, I just turned them off, but some people might care. The lights are not strong enough to wow and they are positioned in mostly unviewable places. Lighting, although programmable, is pretty underwhelming and feels pointless. The back and backplate actually feels cheaper and less sturdy than my £250 Dell U2415 from years ago. The detachable hatch that covers the ports is even worse, I feel like I could snap it in two easily if I was even a little careless. Sorry if that sounds stupid but the edges of the screen do look like they have an extra layer on them?īack feels plasticky and cheap for £979 / $1300. After trying to pry at the edges, I'm forced to conclude that it might not be a plastic film and might be the screen itself. There appears to be a plastic film on the screen, which I thought was removable. Idk what the hell I'm supposed to do with this. The power cable is literally 40 fucking cm long. The monitor has VESA’s DisplayHDR 600 certification and 16 dimming zones, but since it’s edge-lit, the HDR viewing experience is inferior to that of OLED or FALD (full-array local dimming. Felt a bit worried by this, going to keep an eye on it. Next, the Dell Alienware AW2723DF has a strong SDR peak brightness of 450-nits, while HDR content gets a boost up to 700-nits for punchier highlights. I tested Witcher 3 on Ultra at native 100hz with G-sync on, top of the monitor got pretty damn warm and started letting out a faint - moderate hot plasticky smell. No dead pixels or defects to the screen.Easy and accesible UI with a number of different preset modes for different game types ((RTS, FPS, RPG, etc) and other easily configurable options.G-sync just activated automatically and works great.Beautiful, crystal clear picture out of the box, I will be tweaking it but Dell sure do have good out of the box calibration.Hits 120hz overclocked with no coil whine.I'll also give you my impressions so far. I received my AW3418DW today and I'm here to answer any questions you guys might have.
